Targeting Rules
Rules decide which orders see an offer: quantity, cart value and inventory, how to negate and combine them, and what happens when none match.
Rules decide which orders see an offer. You find them on each offer, under Show this offer only when. An offer with no rules shows to every order.
Targeting rules are on Growth and Pro. On Free, Add condition is locked, and an offer that already has rules isn’t shown and can’t be turned on until you remove them or upgrade. See Plans and billing.
What the rules check
Rules look at the order the customer just paid for, not at what they add on the offer page. The one exception is the stock rule.
| Rule | What it checks | Fields |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity | How many items are in the order. Two units of the same product count as 2. | Minimum items in the order, maximum items in the order |
| Cart Value | The order total, including shipping and taxes. | Minimum order total, maximum order total |
| Inventory | The stock of the products the offer would show. | Minimum stock, maximum stock |
You can fill in the minimum, the maximum, or both. Both means “between”.
Examples:
- Quantity, minimum 2 — only orders with 2 or more items see the offer.
- Cart Value, minimum $100 — only orders of $100 or more.
- Cart Value, minimum $50, maximum $150 — only orders between $50 and $150.
- Inventory, minimum stock 10 — only products with at least 10 in stock are offered.
Customer Group and Behavioral rules are marked Coming Soon and can’t be selected yet.
The stock rule
The Inventory rule works on the products, not the order:
- Only products whose stock is in range are offered. The others are left out of the offer page.
- If none of the products is in range, the offer is skipped.
Negate this condition
Tick Negate this condition to flip a rule:
- Quantity minimum 2, negated — only orders with fewer than 2 items.
- Cart Value minimum $100, negated — only orders under $100.
- Inventory minimum stock 10, negated — only products with less than 10 in stock are offered. Useful to clear old stock.
Combining rules with AND and OR
Each rule after the first has an AND / OR choice:
- AND — both rules must match.
- OR — either rule is enough.
When you mix them, AND is checked first. “Quantity AND Cart Value OR Inventory” means (Quantity AND Cart Value) OR Inventory.
Each rule type can be used once per offer.
When an offer’s rules don’t match
The offer is skipped, and the customer never sees it:
- If the offer has something on its Offer declined branch, xPostio tries that offer next.
- If no offer in the workflow matches, the customer goes straight to the Thank you page. There’s no empty page.
Skipped offers don’t count as accepts or declines in your results, and a customer whose offers are all skipped isn’t counted as reached.
Tips
- Test with a real order. A rule that looks right can still exclude your own test order. A Cart Value minimum of $100 skips a $40 test order on purpose.
- Put a no-rules offer on the decline branch as a fallback, so every customer sees something.
- Target by order size. Free shipping for big orders, a percentage offer for small ones.
