Discount Types
Percentage, fixed amount, buy X get Y and free shipping, how the products are chosen, and what the countdown timer does.
Every offer has one discount type, set in Discount type. The discount always applies to the items the customer adds on the offer page, never to what they already bought.
The Free plan includes Percentage. Fixed amount, Buy X Get Y and Free shipping are on Growth and Pro. See Plans and billing.
Percentage
A percentage off each product the customer adds.
- Example: 20% off. A $50 product costs $40.
- Discount value is the percentage.
Fixed Amount
A fixed amount off the customer’s whole selection on the offer page.
- Example: $10 off. One $50 product costs $40. Two $50 products cost $90 together.
- The amount is spread across the items, so the total discount is always the amount you set.
- Keep the amount below the price of your cheapest recommended product, so a single item never costs less than zero.
Buy X Get Y
The customer picks a recommended product (“buy X”) and gets a gift product at a discount (“get Y”).
- Customer gets — the gift products you choose.
- Quantity of gift products — how many gift units get the discount. Extra gift units are full price.
- Gift discount value — the percentage off each gift, from 1 to 100. 100 makes the gift free, and a new Buy X Get Y offer starts at 100. A workflow can’t be turned on with a gift discount of 0.
The gift discount unlocks when the customer picks at least one recommended product. Until then the page shows the gift at full price with “Pick a product above to unlock your gift”.
A gift that is draft, archived or sold out isn’t offered. If none of the offer’s gifts can be sold, the offer is skipped and the customer goes down its Offer declined branch. Keep your gift products in stock so the offer keeps showing.
Free Shipping
The products the customer adds ship for free: xPostio adds a free shipping line with them. The products themselves are full price.
The products in an offer
You don’t pick the products one by one. xPostio uses AI to find the products in your catalogue most similar to what the customer just bought, and shows up to Max Products in Offer of them, within your plan’s limit: 1 on Free, 3 on Growth and 10 on Pro. The customer can pick any of them and choose quantities.
How the AI picks them
- It reads your product text — each product’s title, description and tags. Clear descriptions and accurate tags give better matches.
- It starts with your whole catalogue — when you install xPostio, it reads the products already in your store. A large catalogue can take a while.
- It keeps up with your catalogue — a new product, or a change to a product’s title, description or tags, is picked up automatically.
- Only products customers can buy — draft and archived products, and sold-out products, aren’t recommended. A product set to keep selling when out of stock still is.
- Your store only, nothing twice — the products come from your own catalogue, and a product already in the customer’s order isn’t offered again.
- Nothing to set up or pay for — the AI is included in every plan. You don’t need an AI account or key.
- No customer data — only your product text goes to our AI provider, OpenAI. Customer and order data never do. See the Privacy Policy.
If your offer has a stock rule, only products whose stock matches the rule are shown. See Targeting rules.
An offer with no products to show is skipped: the customer goes down its Offer declined branch, or to the Thank you page if nothing is connected there.
Countdown timer
The countdown is on Growth and Pro. Tick Enable time-based discount and set Duration (minutes). The offer page shows a countdown. When it reaches zero, the offer closes as if the customer declined it, and they move on to the next offer or the Thank you page.
A Status banner block whose text contains {{offer_duration}} also shows the offer’s countdown and closes the offer at zero. On an offer without a timer, that banner isn’t shown. See Designing the offer page.
Use it lightly. The customer has already paid, and a calm offer usually converts better than a rushed one.
What the customer pays
- The offer page shows the subtotal and the discount, then Shopify’s own shipping, taxes and total.
- The button reads Add to my order · Pay $X, with the exact total in the order’s currency. Before the customer picks a product it reads Select a product first, and while Shopify recalculates the total it reads Calculating total… and can’t be pressed.
- Accepting adds the items to the same order and charges the card used for the order. No new checkout.
- The discount shown is exactly the discount charged. xPostio’s server checks every accepted offer against your settings, so an offer can’t be changed on its way to Shopify.
